Description

There’s a lot of power here, with the tradeoff that you’ll be wounding your models every turn to maximize their power in interesting ways. Originally released as part of the special edition Chaos Knights launch box, this codex is available on its own for the first time – and what a book it is! This is the essential guide for fans of these corrupted engines of war, containing everything you need to run a full army, or to add an allied Dreadblade to another Chaos force. Painting Chaos Knights isn’t incredibly different from painting Imperial Knights; the models are the same size and scale with similar components. Chaos Knights will be a bit more complicated from a painting standpoint owing to having more infernal/chaos details on them, while Imperial Knights will require more flat surfaces. Chaos Knights will also require more conversion work, particularly if you’re painting and modeling War Dogs and Tyrants. More on those in a bit. WhiteOutMouse’s Method

The other choice that’ll see use here is Ruthless Tyranny , which is essentially a vastly superior Stranglehold that’s much easier to pull off on six objective maps. You’ll probably only use it when six objectives are in play, or your opponent has a big vulnerability to a kill secondary so you don’t need to use A Fitting Challenge or Storm of Darkness , but it’s extremely good when you use it. The Phobos-armoured Space Marines are built from existing Infiltrators and Incursors, and come with a new upgrade sprue to put together a wide range of new elite specialists. Then I used green stuff to blend those in and add ridges to the more prominent parts. This makes them look more spiny and organic, and also helps blend them into the armor. I had an old WHFB Chaos Warshrine kit I got for cheap from some closeout sale somewhere because I always figured I would use the bits one day. This would provide some wonderful bits for my conversion and has the same bit that KrautScientist used for their Chaos Knight torso. Chaos Shrine. Credit: Games Workshop

A War Dog is the designation given by the Imperium of Man to any Chaos Knight that was originally an Armiger Pattern Knight of any class. Several specialised variants of this class of combat walker found only among the forces of Chaos also exist. The short answer is: Because knights are rad, but the Imperium is lame. The longer answer is that Chaos Knights now have a ton of variety and options for play, and are the most fun army in the game to model, convert, and paint. The kits are huge and wildly customizable, and the rules in the new Codex give you a ton of options, including the ability to dedicate your knights to the Dark Gods of Chaos. The rules are also a huge step up, giving Chaos Knights players lots of great options with some real power behind them. Finally, the new Dreadblade rules make it easy to include a single knight or trio of War Dogs in any Chaos army, which is a great way to improve a force. What’s in this Book? The technical specifications of the War Dog have not yet been obtained by the Holy Ordos of the Inquisition. In battle, War Dogs are often deployed to eradicate those foes who are deemed beneath the notice of their Fallen Noble masters. Yet even the most ignominious task they carry out with savage fervor. The pain and suffering they inflict on others feeds their hatred, for through the dying screams of their enemies they are able to imagine the deaths of their own Noble overlords. Such grim musings do not go unnoticed by other Chaos Knights, but are tolerated nonetheless. After all, it is the hatred of their station that makes War Dogs so eager to prove their worth in battle. [1a] Types of War Dogs As is the case with a Throne Mechanicum, only formidable warriors are able to link themselves to a Helm Mechanicum. Many of the techno-arcane mechanisms that protect Thrones from perversion are absent from Helms, and as such the smaller Knights have fallen to Chaos in greater numbers than their larger counterparts.Chaos Knights are pretty new to the 40k setting and so haven’t had much written about them. However, if you want to read more, you can find them as the antagonists of the short story Apex Predator by Gavin G Smith, which follows Imperial Knight pilot Sethana going up against Chaos Knights.
