Lee and Annie remain idealists in this book, as they were in the previous one, but they discover very clearly that high ideals are not a trustworthy protection against benefiting from unequal systems. The telepathic dragon/companion trope is pretty well worn by now, and Munda doesn't do much to add to it. If you like a lot of government, a touch of war and an in depth relationship then you've got to check this out! This is so brilliant, and I cannot believe I'm not seeing enough people hype this title up because I had so much trouble putting Fireborne down.

a lot of nuance was added to this and as a reader, it ultimately made me question: if the New Regime started following the footsteps of the Old one, then are they really any better than their oppressors?

It feels funny to use the word reassuring about a series that deals with issues as dark as those discussed in the Aurelian series. Our heroes not only stand up and fight for what they believe in, but they also make mistakes and bad decisions while doing so. But the rest, Hermione Granger (I suppose that was Annie, but I don't really see it), Game of Thrones.

Fireborne asks its readers a really interesting question; what if the people who took down the evil monarchy are also evil?i wish she had found out about hin later on in the book but anyway, i still liked how it turned out. i’ve been eyeing this trilogy since months but never had the chance to read it so when i finally did, i had high expectations - obviously. It’s a heady idea with many inherent flaws and I think Munda does an excellent job of showing that without letting it become a political treatise. there was realistic conflict between the affluent elite, the leaders of the New Regime, and the common folk. And even sometimes when the things were happening on-page, I felt like they were not really happening more like we were told and it was described to us what was going on.
